Brazil's carnival is a national celebration which lasts four days, and varies from region to region. The carnival of Porto Alegre, a city located in the extreme south of the country, is strongly influenced by it's significant black presence, even though the region's image is often associated with immigrants of European descent.
This exhibition is designed as a spring board into Porto Alegre's carnival, placing special emphasis on the world of the Samba Schools. These schools bring people together in a yearly cultural activity which involves social interactions and a sense of belonging extending beyond the fleeting days of Carnival.
