Blue Cohosh

The blue cohosh plant is as strange as its name. At first, only its deep violet stalk can be seen. Later, as it continues to grow, it loses its purplish hue and becomes green.
Blue cohosh flowers, very dark at first, become paler over time. This poisonous plant was once used by Native Americans to induce labour, a usage that still lingers on in an alternate name, “squaw root”.
