A view of the city from the top of the mountain Aerial view of the urban areas
The mountain’s perimeter, also called its greenbelt, consists of a forest that surrounds the mountain and protects the heart of the Mont Saint-Hilaire Biosphere Reserve. The perimeter is composed of a number of private lots that do not belong to McGill University. It contains several types of forests, including sugar maple-bitternut hickory stands, considered one of Quebec’s exceptional ecosystems, along with a wide variety of flora and fauna. The mountain’s integrity depends in part on the ecological health of this greenbelt, which connects with the region’s forest corridors.
