Dr. Gingras was Chief of Service, Physical Medicine
and Rehabilitation at Queen Mary Veteran's Hospital in Montreal,
1945-76. The experience he gained in treating veterans made him
a strong advocate for the rights of the handicapped. He lobbied
Government and social institutions to provide access for
the handicapped, facilities for the disabled, and legislation to
help integrate handicapped persons into the public school system
and into various forms of employment.
Among Dr. Gingras' many honours were investment as an Officer of
the Order of Canada in 1967, and a Companion in 1972.
