natural sciences

The entire set of disciplines devoted to the study and description of the world’s physical characteristics. First consolidated in the 18th century, the natural sciences are now generally understood to encompass the life sciences (the biological sciences) and those of the ecosystem that has enabled life to develop (the earth sciences).
