beading

A highly specialized craft employing a variety of techniques to decorate objects, clothing and jewelry. Among Canada’s Native peoples, the practice of beading developed after contact with Europeans, when it became easier to obtain glass beads in many colours. Formerly, traditional beaded pieces, which were assembled from copper, seashells, ceramic pieces and polished stones, were rather rare.
