Israel and the Formation of the
Old Testament
The Old Testament contains texts that relate the beginnings of humanity, the story of the Patriarchs and of the people of Israel. The books of the Prophets are a record of the preaching of Israel’s prophets. The last section of the Old Testament contains the teachings of Wisdom and the Psalter, which is considered Israel’s prayer book and which is still used daily by the monks today.
