1940 The Consecration: Becoming an
Abbey
Finally, after 50 years of growing a community, the Monastery of Our Lady of the Prairies becomes an independent Abbey with its own Abbot. Find out about the thoughts of the first Abbot from his Daybook, a journal of the daily life of the Monk.
Notes:
1. Women were allowed in for the week of consecration ceremonies in 1947.
2. “Dom” originates in “Dominus” Latin for “Lord.”
