We arrived in Halifax in February 1948. The ship was met by the social worker Mrs. Jean Rose and people from the Canadian Jewish Congress. I was still sick when we booked into the hotel for the night. A doctor was called and diagnosed my illness as Beriberi. He advised that I be taken to a doctor upon my arrival in Vancouver. The next morning we boarded a train and arrived in Vancouver four days later.
