It must have taken me three or four days to get to
Zbarazh. I remember riding, walking and then sitting in a forest. I stayed with my Uncle Adolph and Aunt Rozia for a while before they decided that I was Aryan looking enough to pass in hiding. They gathered up whatever they had silverware, candlesticks and money and gave it to a Ukrainian woman in the village of Berezowice, to hide me until my parents could come and reclaim me. I was hidden in an attic on her farm. She was kind to me and fed me three times a day. Then people in the village began to suspect that she might be harbouring a Jew and she got frightened and threw me out.
