Eventually I was hidden in a convent. I remember the Mother Superior waking me up in the middle of the night and telling me to hide in the sewers of the convent. One of the nuns had found out that I was Jewish and had reported me to the
Gestapo for the reward money.
Afterwards, I was moved to a Catholic orphanage. I stayed in a few different orphanages in Belgium, Luxembourg and Paris. I was never in one place long enough to remember their names. I learned to speak many languages,
Yiddish, Polish, Flemish, French, Dutch and Swedish. I was very lonely. I became a void, without any feeling at all.
