The Air Canada Cup Midget Hockey Championships is an annual tournament that has graduated over 150 players into the NHL after showcasing their skills as sixteen and seventeen year olds. Prior to being named the Air Canada Cup, the tournament was known as "The Wrigley." The Wrigley debuted in 1974 and instantly became the foremost minor hockey tournament. The tournament was inspired by the success of a midget tournament that was organized to help celebrate Canada’s centennial in 1967. That tournament boasted teams from coast to coast and both of the territories, which is the plan that was adopted for the Wrigley/Air Canada Cup as well.
